Footsteps Dance Academy's Competitive Dance Team currently has 34 members ranging in age from 8 to 20.
Footsteps Dance Team has been awarded some of the highest possible honors in competitive dance today.
This Season's Results 2005!
The Team's awards range from Silver to Platinum for Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Liturgical Ballet, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. Most recently Footsteps Dance Team won Hi-Gold, the overall Height score for its age category and the International Dance Awards for the Irish Dance entitled "Gravel Walk" at the prestigious "International Dance Challenge" that was held in College Park, Maryland February of this year. The piece was choreographed by Kelley Taylor and included 22 Team members ranging in age from 10 to 18.
The Footsteps' "Mini's" won the award for "Overall Best Emotional Expression" for their Jazz piece, "Shining Star", that was choreographed by Kelley Taylor at the "International Dance Challenge" in February, and High Honors at the "Dance Master's of America Competition" in Wye Mills, MD in March and Hi-Gold at the T.A.P Competition in April of 2005.
Footsteps' Dance Team uses competition to enhance the overall dance experience for the more serious dance student. We take great care in music and costume selection as we seek to honor God not only in the Footsteps classroom, but also at competitions and performances.
Membership on the Dance Team is by audition only and requires additional class and rehearsal time and travel.
Dancing at the competitive level at Footsteps requires a great deal of commitment however; the rewards and benefits are tremendous! Any students truly considering a career in professional dance should dance at the competitive level. Additional performance opportunities, professional critiques of each performances technique and choreography, travel, new friends and lots of fun are just some of the awesome benefits students receive after passing the audition and participating on the Footsteps' Dance Team!
